I saw this the other day on Twitter/X.

We have this tendency to think of creative and non-creative people as separate types, or at least I did. Variations of "I'm just not creative," is a fairly common refrain.

While there is an unquestionable genetic bias towards certain things (why are some children obsessed with basketballs and others with colored pencils) I do think creativity is very much something that's nurtured.

Creativity is like going to the gym. It's very hard to start, but all of a sudden, it just becomes "what I do." You become more creative by "doing creativity," just like you become more fit by doing fitness.

The above Creative Process approach is perfect because it provides an order of operations for what is often a chaotic process filled with doubt and self loathing. (If you start to experience a very loud critical inner voice telling you that you are an idiot, you are probably on to something).

Practice creativity every day, it will absolutely change your life.

Have had a lot of AI folks pitch me AI room design apps & programs.

I don't think designers are getting eliminated by AI anytime soon. It's just not there yet, haven't seen it, and I do pay attention.

Good design is inherently born of combining design principles with personal taste and will be really hard for AI to replicate for anyone who is seeking "the best." Being creative and unique by doing the above exercise is the best way to avoid replacement.

Instead, designers will use AI to make their life easier and take more parts of their business in house.

Case and point - I am working with a fabric manufacturer to do some very cool custom striped window treatments.

I input my window dimensions and desires (roman shades & pleated curtains) into the interface. It asked me a few questions about mounting and curtain fullness and was able to give me exact amounts of different fabrics I needed to provide to the manufacturer. Easy peasy.

There are many ways to work smarter, not harder, using AI, especially if you are building a business online.

Pay attention to this space. It's going to change how everyone builds businesses.
